WAMPLER NIRVAN CHORUS/TREMOLO
An extremely flexible chorus pedal - extreme lushness, nice and watery if you desire, or swirling speaker tones! From phat chorus, leslie type wobble all the way to straight vibrato, the nirvana chorus delivers. Controls include volume, tone, rate, depth, switchable chorus types, and a switch to go to straight vibrato.
WAMPLER NIRVANA CHORUS PEDAL
(more than just chorus)
It's got a 5yr warranty and this is what its got going on.
Switch 1 3 x variable degree's of modulation switch
This is an intensity of effect in 3 stages . It's not subtle and very functional.
Switch 2 Vibrato to Chorus switch.
This switches between to the two modulation effects so between, the two effects and 3 switches , that gives you six varied modulations with further variables in the knobs section of the pedal layout
Level knob
This knob give us a small difference in the volume when in bypass or switched on. For instance if you want to have a rhythm sound lower so when you're stumming the chorus is lower the bypass volume, then this knob does that job perfectly.
However if you want the chorus to cut through apart from the tone knob this level knob will raise the signal level and NOT the amaount of chorus ....turn it off or adjust the other knobs for that purpose.
TONE
Tone knob , this is where some of the magic of this pedal happens for me , the tone makes either a warm an analogue sounding signal or brighter as you sweep through its generous frequencies.
This is one of the distinctions between a digital chorus or cheaper chorus , this warmth that the quality electronics has to offer causes this pedal to stand out in the boutique category .
Depth knob - this is exactly what it says , the depth of modulation , mixed with speed it can be used to set deep slow chorus, leslie style or shallow chorus or vibrato . Everything from warm light chorus , Andy summers or watery chorus , light or leslie speaker emulation , or space warbles and crazy stuff , its all here and easy enough to find although some markers or numbers would have been good to have .
SPEED
Speed knob - Again this is what it says on the title , its the speed of the modulation , mixed with the variable degree switches and the depth knob , the less depth and more speed or slow deep chorus or tremolo , all easy to find and the knobs and controls are of impeccable standard and are all the components, they turn nice and smoothly.
It's cool to play a chord and bend over and turn the speed knob for a cool effect .
REAL TRUE BYPASS
On and off switch - This believe it or not turns it on and off, it's a rugged switch as is the rest of the pedal you wont be scared to stomp on it with your rock and roll boot and if you do get exited and stomp it , it will take it as its like a little tank (and almost the same colour) .
I mentioned you can have the level set lower so switching can add warmth , add chorus or add warm chorus at a lower level than your true bypass or louder than your true bypass . This pedal can change your tone or leave it in tact , it's got the capabilities for either via the tone and volume section and the switch is exactly what it should be, a switch .
In Summery I have been spoiled by this chorus pedal now I've had it for a while . I was happy with my digital doubling in my effect units like the BossGT10 and PODXT but after using this very unique and warm chorus I now listen to the others and am sorely disappointed in their lifeless digitality.
I am sold on this warm analogue vibe , quality smooth rotary controls , easy to find and many settings and of coarse the very important true bypass
I used the pedal in a variety of settings , straight into my amp on cleans and drop C metal , I was happy with the effect , not too washed up and subtle yet without it very missed .
I used it in my effects loops of my amp and even in my effect units with pre-amps ect in may chain settings . The Wampler Nirvana Chorus beat my xt , gt10 and even Roger Linn adrenalin III for warm chorus plus interesting space sounds.
The tremolo is an interesting an boutique vibe , its not tempo synced like the ones in my effects with midi but its got character and is very useful and easy to switch over too from chorus.
The down sides to the Nirvan Chorus are few and far between but here are some I've struggled to find.
1 It's mono, but so are most peoples effect send and returns
2 There is no way telling when the battery will die but there's a cool blue light when its working if it turned amber when battery was nearly dead it would be cool (who uses batteries on stage?)
3 Battery needs to be installed via taking the base off and exposing all the very high quality electronics but it does come with one supplied and a neat little bag plus 5 yrs warranty.
4 uhh well ...hmm ....no thats it , it comes with optional cool rubber feet too if you want them or not if you don't (they stick on with very sticky stuff, nice choice I like mine flat)
SOUNDS VERY NICE
The sound quality and warmth is what I think came over the most , there were setting on low tone that I just loved , warm rounded and that was with minimal effects .
This pedal has four great sides to it , the warm , the tremolo , the chorus and the space rock effects . These coupled with the really very apparent quality of the signal make is a winner.
Interestingly different level knob which acts and a signal level boost or
cut rather than an effect or amount of chorus level, plus the very rugged metal case , well worth having instead of your digital modulation.
Not a one trick pony and worth having if you like your effects top be quality .
