1. Michael you hold a number of masterclass's ,what can a student expect from this , hows that going and do you have many sponsors for that?
I've got a good run of the master classes happening at the moment, with more on the way .I feel really excited about meeting other guitarists and sharing my thoughts and approach with them.
They'll be definitely be seeing my concepts and approach covering arpeggios, melodic minor ideas, wide pentatonic ideas legato lines etc ..and all of it is in simple form.
Originally when I decided I was going to conduct these classes ,I always wanted to make sure that I give the players my honest approach without the theory i,e ideas they can relate to simple and effective, and at the same time making it there own .
I have to mention the shops I'm doing the master classes in, cause they're giving up there time after hours to do this for me and a big thankyou to Carl at xotic Australia for lending a hand and treating me to fantastic pedals .
2 I loved your album "Everything till now" , you have alot of very tastey phrases and licks from the likes of brett Garsed and Robben Ford , who else is on your influence list?
Thanks Mark ,I grew up listening to my dad playing italian folk songs that was a massive influence on me, and then my uncle showed me his collection of "The Shadows" and that was it for me, that's how guitar was mean't to be played in my books.
So when I wrote the album it was that influence that gave me the inspiration to write an instrumental album that was easy to listen to.
3. Whats comming up on the horizons?
Just the master classes and the normal session gigs aroud town. We'll be releasing the new Charles Cilia Harlequin MD series .so im hoping there'll be a bunch of promo clinics for it and last but not least, start working on a new album soon.
4. Do you gig alot? What material do you play and who's in the band?
I gig a fair bit around town and out of town with different artists.
The style varies and so does my playing ,the players in each band that I play with are constantly changing depending on whos available .
5 You sport a nice telecaster in your shots , what gear do you use both studio and live?
Yes ! that's my baby, that's actually the Charles cilia custom harlequin that you see in the clip ,my MD series is pretty much the same thing but the control plate has a dog leg in it,for the purpose of bringing the volume pot closer to the strings . It also has a nice contour on the back top edge.
I use this for all my gigs unless I need a specific sound from one of my other guitars
6 We have had some great lessons , your hybrid picking licks really stands out, give us a little walkthrough on how we can get this technique going .
Thanks mate if everyone sees this latest clip/lesson on the site I actually explain how I don't use the hybrid picking style ,its all left hand hammeron's and pull offs and pick, I only use the hybrid thing when I play anything that involves string skipping intervals at slow pace and chord grabs ,the rest of it is pick and left hand.
