ALBUM REVIEW
(written by Mark Thompson artwork by 'Livia Bonadio')
1 Embrace - This is a mix of guitar and a female vocal scat , very free form and very mellow and chilled out . This is unique
2 First look at the sky - This track feature on the lick library Contemporary Lines , the mix of acoustic Irish folk and fusion blends nice. This track could be said to have a "Lord of the dance" and " Riverdance " meets rock , great dynamics awesome sections and good mood lifting tune , awesome no , amazingly awesome drums too and great fiddly fiddling. There is some Vai in this track too , very good job .
3 Sneaking in at the attic - Blusey and moody this track is loaded with coolness. Beck meets Verheyen vibe ..
great track with a nice middle section which leads back into an uplifting end section full of terrific guitar .
4 The Treasure - Bizarre intro and then ...fusion at its finest and weirdest , nice interaction with a few reed instruments too , morphing into groovy funky town .
5 Red Hot - Piano intro in a jazz vibe played extreamy free and very well , the guitar in so overdriven and contrasts with the smooth piano , great melodies ...
6 The Last Goodbye - The cello intro in the vibe of classical Jewish minor thing, it reminds me of a film track where Jews are taken away to camps or the scenes of broken bombed family homes., very short and interesting .
7 The war part 1 part and part3 - Great all out track and long..., nice composition and live feel. George has a unique composing touch and great guitar skills, he doesn't show off but plays music .
This track is split up with a great poetic moment. in the middle the clean guitar and flute make a great atmosphere , the track end with a really great buildup .
8 Hope - This is the second track that feature on Contemporary lines , its very guitar on a platter and satch-esq , summer song kind of vibe, and only if vibe, its a great unique song just the same uplifting summer vibe and great guitar work .
Summery
This album is very well recorded , this is one this that stands out also it is very bizzare in a cool way.The unorthodox fusion nature of this album makes it both refreshing and unique , This was a labour of love and not an album to tickle teenage ears or
sell records to shred lovers .
I enjoyed this very organic experimental multi instrument resource this album offers as well as great guitar compositions, chops, licks and phrasing George is now renowned for due to his "contemporary Lines DVD with Lick Library.
Another stand out aspect of this album is its very live feel , due to real live interaction with drums and as I mentioned unorthodox live instruments .
The articulation and dynamics as well as crazy experimental free form vibe make this a real joy to experience , I recommend it for fusion lovers and guitar geeks, metal shredders may either be disappointed or converted into the exotic world of George Marios.
