ChickenPicks
ChickenPicks Guitar Picks
I’ve always liked trying new plectrums with their different materials, tones and shapes.
I’ve only recently been introduced to the chicken picks and think they are awesome so I’ve written this review.
All ChickenPicks are made of a thermosetting plastic, this is used in Aerospace and expensive medical electronics.
The material is mostly used where an area becomes very hot and has to keeps its shape , in street terms , its like playing with a well carved piece of plectrum from a chuck out of the space shuttle.
Chicken picks guitar picks facts and fiction
They are made of chickens - fiction
They are made for chickens - fiction
They are made for chicken picking country – fiction but could be used for that .
They are expensive - fact
They are worth the extra cost - fact
They are unique – fact
They are the best in the world – umm probably ;)
I found the material these picks are made from superb, they just don't seem to wear at all, after a month of shredding, or rather trying to shred, they have absolutely no wear at all.
The feel in the hand is rare, with a matt super hard chalky like feel that is absolutely non-slip.. I say non-slip even with greasy sweaty hands the pick stays where you put it and does not drift. The material is also super comfortable to the touch
The feel on the strings is something I really like , the material has enough slip to glide on the string yet enough bite to give a really nice attack and resists on the string just enough to keep control unlike rounded type glossy thick picks can.
The tone is absolutely stunning and very unique to these picks , both bright and thick at the same time . There is no thin sounds here and very loud with hardly any effort , and did I mention it was bright , very bright pick indeed.
Overdriven sounds are punchy and clear and clean sounds have a full tone, plus the new range have even more tone to offer with the varied bevels see below.
Overall I would recommend trying one of the types of pick on offer that takes your fancy and I can say with confidence they affected my playing positively in both technique and tone.
The types of pick
Badazz III 2.0 mm (my favourite) The fastest of all the chicken picks with more pointed tip
Badazz III 2.5 mm (second favourite) still fast with more thickness in tone compared to the 2.0mm pick and also has the new pointed tip.
Bermuda 2.7 mm A very useful pick with two different tips on 3 sides (triangle) With this you get both 2 pointed tips and one rounder edge which glides through strings like butter
Bermuda 2.1 mm. Like the Bermuda 2.7 this has 3 sides and two different bevels,. This one is thinner than the 2.7mm. I found this pretty much the same as the 2.7 in tone and feel but lighter in the hand
Regular 2.6 mm This pick is a regular shape , very thick with rounder edge than the Badazz. This is a great pick with that material making a unique and satisfying tone.
Light 2.1 mm This is a lighter version of the Regular type and rounded , slightly thinner sound but unique compared to other picks material
Shredder 3.5mm - This fat little pick is definitely a great pick and is about the same size as a jazz III except very fat with a much rounder tip. I like this pick but personally prefer the pointy Badazz picks.
